Quassy Amusement Park, Middlebury, CT

Sometimes bigger adventures can be found in smaller packages. We learned this lesson recently after our visit to Quassy Amusement Park. Our visit there came on the heels of our trip to Hershey and I was worried that Quassy wouldn’t hold up in the eyes of our adventure kiddos. My worries were quickly put to rest! We found out that less space in between rides means less hiking for tired toddler toes. Smaller crowds meant less overwhelm for mom and dad and little to no wait times for rides. The ride attendants were bubbly, fun, and friendly. Quassy is a one of a kind gem!

We only gave ourselves one day in Connecticut so I asked Dorky Adventure Dad to take us some place special and he sure came through. The 20-acre lakeside park celebrated its centennial in 2008. Not only has the park been in operation now for 108 years, but for the past 79 seasons it has been owned by members of the same family. For years the facility was known as Lake Quassapaug – Quassapaug a Native American term meaning “big pond” or “rock pond’ but the locals started calling the park simply “Quassy” decades ago and the nickname stuck.

Some tips you should know before you go.

Make sure you have the right tickets. While we were waiting for the next go round on the helicopters we saw a woman who had 2 kiddos be told her youngest didn’t have the right wristband to ride the rides. It was just as heartbreaking for me to watch the scene as it was for the little guy to be turned away. Also make sure you have covers for swim suits. We also saw some kiddos be turned away in their bathing suits from the bumper cars. It does say this on the website, but angry momma said no one reads the website. I can’t be the only one who researches a place before we visit, can I?

When you consider your food options I’d say bringing your own food here would be very easy! There was no container size limits or searches, and there is plenty of nice places to stop and enjoy your packed lunch. We opted for the pizza and it was AMAZING! It was $23 of homemade garlicy cheesy goodness. Seriously one of the best pizzas we’ve ever had. EVER. There was too much to eat for our family of 5 so we shared our left over slices with some friends we made at the picnic tables. As always, we recommend bringing your own water bottles to save money. There was cold cold water right across from the mini bumper cars by the picnic tables.

One thing you’ll want to be mindful of is the water park hours. When we were there the water park closed earlier than the main park and I didn’t realize that at the time. It was all good, though, because just as the water park area was closing a nasty storm rolled in. We hid out from the rain at the carousel because it seemed like it would pass quickly, and it did! We did learn if you’re there and a storm rolls in that sticks around when it’s early and they do have to close down, they make it right.

There is plenty of parking for Rvs. They charge the same price for RV parking as they do for cars which is practically unheard of! We really appreciated that! On your way to the car or RV at the end of the day ring the bell!

To say that Quassy Amusement Park is Fun Adventure Family approved is an understatement! This was one of our favorite amusement park trips to date. Check it out, you won’t regret it!
